ETHOS OF THE PRACTICE

To offer our clients a high quality professional service

To involve clients in the design process, using simple card models as well as computer-aided drawings as appropriate, to help communication and understanding

To design projects which respect the existing historic, urban or rural context

To incorporate in our designs, wherever possible, our knowledge of ecological construction, with attention to the health implications of buildings & products

To continue to undertake research work, and feed-back the knowledge into our practice work

To design buildings of quality that are “practical & enjoyable”

OUR APPROACH TO DESIGN

In 1994 the Practice was able to find a client with similar interests when appointed to design the development of the hotel ‘The Narrows’. Here integrated accessibility and the recycling of materials remained important design criteria. The practice now has a track record of buildings that are functional and cost effective, and importantly are very well liked by the wider public, as well as by the clients!

Tom Woolley is heavily involved in research, consultancy and publications in the field of ecological buildings. As Editor of the Green Building Handbook, Tom Woolley is able to feed practical knowledge into the Architectural Practice of Rachel Bevan Architects. We are members of the Ecological Design Association & AECB, and have formed strong links with the Environmental Building News and Ecological Building Network in the USA.

Rachel Bevan has won a number of awards for her designs. She has built the practice on a reputation of quality work and Client centered approach.
